Petra Hart is a contemporary artist known for her innovative use of light, colour and space. She creates artworks that not only transform their surroundings, but also create an intimate connection with the viewer. Her oeuvre includes light sculptures, installations and photography, characterised by a dynamic play of light and shadow. This creates a sense of movement and change, while her works radiate an atmosphere of positivity and vitality.
Hart’s art first came to attention during her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, where she made her breakthrough with her charity project Heart-World: Making a Better World, which immediately put her mission of combining art with social impact into practice. Since then, she has built up an impressive portfolio, focusing on themes such as energy, transformation and perception. Her work engages viewers and offers an intimate experience through harmonious interaction with the environment.
Her artworks are not only visually impressive, but also conceptually strong. In 2019, she was part of the group exhibition Move! Movement in contemporary art at the Gorcums Museum, supported by the Mondriaan Fund and Fonds Kwadraat. In 2022, the Josilda da Conceição Gallery presented her work in a duo show, while Upstream Gallery selected her installation Different Perspectives for participation in BYOB, an open source concept by Rafaël Rozendaal.
Art and entrepreneurship
In addition to her autonomous work, Petra Hart initiates and organizes art-related projects and events. For example, in 2014 she brought AMFAD (Architecture, Media, Fashion, Art, Design) to life, a platform that brought together various creative disciplines in exhibitions, such as in the Houthavens and later in Hotel Spaander Volendam. In 2021, she also launched the AiR Spaander residency program for artists, with which she stimulated creative cross-pollination.
From 2003 until COVID-19, she organized art dinners in her studio almost daily, hosting groups of 1 to 30 guests and presenting her art in an intimate and innovative way.
Background and inspiration
Petra’s versatile background in conceptual thinking and visual communication forms the basis of her artistry. Before her admission to the Rietveld Academy, she worked for eight years as an art director at international advertising agencies for A-brands. This experience refined her creative vision and still influences her innovative approach to art. In 2023, she completed her studies in Event & Tourism Management, which gives her projects an extra dimension in terms of organization and experience.
