In 2000, Petra Hart intuitively began drawing small faces. More and more figures appeared until together they formed an imaginary family: a father, a mother, nineteen children and a pet. Each character was given a distinctive appearance, name and personality.
Fam.Li represents a family in which no one is left out of the picture. The individual figures are different, yet together they form a single world. The first works were produced on small, colored canvases. Each work was recognisable as part of the family while remaining unique through its colour and context.
At Petra Hart’s first exhibition in 2001, part of the proceeds supported the education of a boy in China and later his class. Fam.Li thus became the starting point for Heart-World, bringing together art, connection and social impact.
More about this art series can be found in the artist’s book True Blue.
