Magnolia x soulangeana
Description
Magnolia x soulangeana belongs to a very ancient group of flowering plants. Its floral structure shows similarities to early fossil flowers and developed before bees and bumblebees existed. Magnolias are therefore pollinated, among others, by beetles; their sturdy petals are adapted to this.
In this work, that organic structure is reduced to line, colour and transparency. Mouth-blown glass in the colours of the flower is positioned between two aluminium forms. As the light changes, the character of the work changes throughout the day.
Magnolia x soulangeana is part of the art series Treasures in Detail.
