Neon heart

Neon Heart is hand-blown red glass and connects the object with the transformer by two anthracite twisted cables. The red heart  is packed in a white wooden box that is part of the work of art and lies on preserved rose petals. Below that the transformer.

Neon Heart is originated during the lockdown as well as two LED installations Freedom and Unity. Neon Heart is about communication through ideograms. The history of communication can be traced back to the origins of speech around 500,000 BC and the use of symbols some 30,000 years BC. Among these symbols used are cave paintings, petroglyphs, pictograms and ideograms. Nowadays we use worldwide every day a 'new kind of alphabet' 'emoticons'. Through these ideograms we sense what is meant while they are used for different purposes. About 250 emoticons are added every year and more and more detailed. This makes communication more diverse and prevents exclusion. The work of art is part of the art series Lockdown. More information
