‘Glowing edges’ shows an abstract form of electromagnetic radiation (based on what we do see: RGB) that bends around the earth like a spiral in 11 phases due to the rotation of the earth around the sun, the speed of light and spacetime. All energy from the sun that reaches the earth enters as solar radiation. Solar radiation includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared, red, green and blue radiation (visible light), ultraviolet light, X-rays, gamma rays and cosmic rays. The visible radiation we know is RGB, which together makes white light, but the electromagnetic spectrum goes beyond that and represents invisibility on both sides of the visible part. It varies from long waves with little energy to short waves with extremely high energy. The shorter waves such as ultraviolet B / C, X-rays, gamma rays and cosmic rays are blocked by the atmosphere.
This work of art comes together with a video and a QR-code that serves as a reference. The video shows this spiral as a path following 11 geographic coordinates, locations on Earth that are numerically captured on Google Earth at an altitude of 300 meters and navigates from the Tropic of Cancer through the equator to the Tropic of Capricorn. The route is approximately 96000 km long. The QR code shows internet images in sequence of locations on this route. It shows, in a radius of 1000 km, the possible consequences of radiation power on Earth when the sun is perpendicular to the equator or the tropics. The continuously repetitive nature of perpendicular solar radiation (which is the most powerful) leaves its mark on the Earth. Electromagnetic radiation has different wavelengths and travels at the speed of light. The locations are affected differently.
LIVE INTERVENTION CAMERA LIGHT PAINTING DURING BIG ART 2020
During BIG ART I performed an intervention on ‘Glowing edges’ with my camera. Light is an illusion. An apparent reality or an incorrect idea of ‘reality’. We as humans see the world in a certain way, while at almost the same time another animal sees the world very differently. Within this stage I painted live with my camera during BIG ART in the circles of light of ‘Glowing edges’, a photographic technique in which I move my camera while taking a photo of a light source. As the end result I made a lambda print of these photos in RGB, CMYK or negative.
A series of 28 works of art were created. Except that I convert some RGB photos into negative or CMY (like the concept is meant to be) all photos from the entire series are photographed in one shot and not further edited. Lambda is a photographic method that uses three RGB lasers for a digital print on photosensitive material. The exposed paper is developed using photographic chemistry in much the same way as a traditional photographic print by means of a photo exposure device and negatives in a darkroom. The lambda print is mounted on 3 mm black acrylic / dibond with 3 mm TruLife Museum glass with suspension profile in format 24x30 cm.
